How-to Make A Banner for Your Blog

So you want to make your own banner for your blog? And you want to use those free stock images you see floating around the web. Then this article is tailored just exactly for your needs. Without further ado, let’s get this project started!

First, go get yourself this free photo editing software called Gimp.

Second, prepare your image. It’s better to use an image with 800x600 dimension. Wonder why? Because we are going to crop a part of the image and use it for our banner and we want to get a bigger view of the whole image. Just be careful with the image license agreement.

Next, is to right click on the image then open it using Gimp.

Click the Rect Select tool
select

Set the size option to “fixed size” then adjust the Width and Height values in “px” according to your desired output size.
fixed

Use the Rect Select tool by dragging it to the area of the image which you want to crop then go to edit and select cut.
crop

Select File then click New…
new

Adjust the size of the new image according to the exact size of the “fixed size” (see step5).
size

Go to edit then select paste to place the cropped image to the new blank image.

Save your file and that’s it! Now you have a custom banner for your blog!

How-to Get A Free Unix Shell Account For Psybnc Use

This topic is for all those diehard fans of the Integrated Relay Chat or IRC. To begin with, let me dissect a few pointers for those non-irc users. I’m no expert of this field but i’ll try to explain it as correctly as possible.

IRC - It is a popular platform for chatting with friends over a network of servers. One of the most commonly use IRC chat client is mIRC and the Philippines is one of the thousands of users interacting 24/7 at undernet server (an IRC server).

Unix Shell - Like any operating system, the shell is just an environment that contains files and allows code execution for those who have access. It has many functions and uses and one of the most popular uses for IRC users is for hosting a Psybnc (Bouncer) and Bots.

Bouncer - This is not what they have in clubs and bars. This is a program that sits between the actual irc user (chatter) and the other end. Data bounces from the user to the bouncer and from the bouncer to the opposite side (could be another server or a user). The bouncer can function as an anonymity feature that enables the user to hide his/her real IP and can also function as proxy client that helps users communicate behind a firewall.

Ok let’s start getting those free shells! There are limited sources of free shells on the web and most of this free services is sooooo hard to find. That’s the very reason why i’m writing this article, which is for us to cut down the search.

Free Unix shell account at Yaphog

Our first free shell provider is from a website named Yaphog. All you have to do to get an account at Yaphog is by visiting the site and by filling up the registration form. Ok, now there are rules to follow when you are asking for an account. You have to be honest and be specific about your intentions. Prepare your best answer for this kind of questions.

Why are you asking for an account?

    Why choose our service?

Read the instructions carefuly to avoid mistakes that could result to the disapproval of your request. After filling the request, all you can do now is wait, wait and wait. There are requests that could take weeks. If your lucky, your account will be emailed to you the next day.

Free Unix shell account at Aceshells

Our next free shell account provider is from a site named Aceshells. This one is a bit harder than Yaphog but a lot fun to do. At Aceshells, you will play a web-based game and work your way up to get an access. You will train a fighter, fight other fighters, and gain points as you level up. Points starts from getting your free unix shell to getting your eggdrop (a bot), your psybnc and other nifty tools. Sounds fun right?

    Steps:

    1. Sign-up for an account at http://www.aceshells.com/freeshell/. This first step is for registering a fighter. This is not your unix shell account but your login account for managing your fighter.

    2. Login then train your fighter. Fight other fighters to level up and later on get your free Unix shell account.

Soon i’ll write an article for some tips about the best way to gain points. See you at the arena! hehe!

How-to Beat Rapidshare’s Download Limit The Legal Way!

Now I will teach you a simple technique on how to beat Rapidshare’s download limit without using premium accounts.

This guide will take you less than 10 minutes to learn. ;)

What we’re gonna need is a browser and a proxy website.

For our browser, we’re going to use Firefox and NNtime for our proxy site.

What we need first is a LIVE proxy ip address utilizing port 80. You can get one at NNtime’s website.

    example:
    Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

For this example I choose an ip address from Algeria because it is active and it is utilizing port 80 which normally works best. You can try other port numbers but I prefer port 80 for this guide.

Now open your Firefox browser and let the downloads begin! On your browser, go to Tools and open Options… Under the General Tab click Connection Settings… then choose manual proxy configuration. Key-in your preferred IP address (the Algerian IP address for this example) and enter the Port number that comes along with the IP address. Click Use this proxy server for all protocols and then click OK to apply.

check this screeshot for a closer look:

    fire

You can now begin downloading stuff from Rapidshare using their free access without any limitation. If ever you are prompted that you already exceeded the download limit, go back to step one then look for another IP that will work. Good luck! :)
