Firefox memory tweak

Somebody from digg’s comment page wrote this cool new firefox tweak that actually worked. So I tested it on my own computer running windows XP SP2 using Firefox 1.5.0.1

from the users mouth:

This site says to go to “about:config”, create a new boolean value called “config.trim_on_minimize”, and set it equal to “true”. Whenever you minimize Firefox, the memory usage will go down considerably. Mozilla knows about the problem and agrees with this solution. I tried it and it worked.

Heres the memory usage BEFORE I applied the tweak.

When Firefox is maximized with 5 tabs opened but no page loaded. (no page because im offline when i wrote this entry)

The result is impressive!

summary: from 13,360 K cut down to 2,004 K of memory usage.
