This is what I do right after I installed AVG
First I changed the control center’s view mode from standard to reduce mode
for easy viewing.
Next, I started to configure its components
AVG Resident Shield - There are few options of this component that AVG does not enable by default.
Here they are:
Under Properties
Change “scan infected files” to “scan all files”
Check “on close scanning”
Scheduler - I hate this part. I personally dont like to set any scheduled tasks and I just dont know why. So dont bother asking me. Its up to you if your going to keep this or not. In my case I disabled it.
Shell Extention - There are good options here that needs to be enabled.
Under Properties
Check Scan system areas before the test starts
Check scan inside archives
Check scan all files
Virus Vault - Its here where the nasty stuff resides.
Open the virus vault and press F8
uncheck the “limit the size of the virus vault”
Setting a limit size is a risk your going to take if a contamination occurs. When a virus spreads itself and infecting files more than the capacity of the virus vault, excess infected files will no longer be quarantined, making the contamination a disaster.
