For total anonymity on IRC use TOR with some important things to keep in mind.

First and foremost. Do not use your real identity information eg. name, age, residence under any circumstances. Next, do not in any given place and time show your active email address and other personal accounts.
If you want to relay an important account number like your credit card account. email it to him or call him on the phone.

Disregard spams given to you. This spams are unsolicited links that pops up while your log in an instant messenger service. Disable IM’s DCC feature. If you are using MIRC, set “On Send request” and “On Chat request” to “ignore all”, this will minimize spams. If you have an undernet account, use it wisely. Set mode to x if you are visiting unfamiliar channels under TOR anonymity. This will give you double security.

1. first TOR hides your Ident so for eg. user@, it will be hidden as tor@ instead.
2. secondly, your proxy ip is masked making you more anonymous.

real ip > encrypted connection through multiple onion routers > tor proxy ip > undernet mask

Undernet servers that worked well with TOR based from actual testing.
